China Cabinet: Before & After

Before we moved to Arizona we didn’t have a need, or space, for much furniture. Everything we had was second-hand and random besides our awful couch- which we don’t have anymore, buh-bye! Anyway, we we’re shopping at a local antique … Continue reading

A Couple of TWO-TONE, Annie Sloan Makeovers

By now, it’s probable you’re aware that I love to use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I DO! I DO!  In this case, that’s particularly true, because I wasn’t about to lug my dresser outside for sanding.  No sir! The two … Continue reading

6 Reasons Why… I Love IKEA

So.

Ikea.

No matter where I may be living, it always seems to be somewhat of a hike to get to, but  always worth the trip.  The great thing about it is – you always know what to expect.  I’ve come to depend on they’re tried and true domestic staples, and the prices can’t be beat.  Sometimes they throw in a couple new products and that’s always a plus, but when I make a trip – I have a specific purpose.

I am particular with the Ikea products I buy.   I certainly “spread the love” among many different retailers when it comes to dressing up my home –  But here are SIX reasons why I love this place…

1.  CLOCKS

Dekad Alarm Clock $5.99 and Pugg Wall Clock $19.99

Basic and classic time pieces at a steal!

I found a similar alarm clock on Amazon.com for $24.99

SAVINGS – $19

2.  CURTAINS

Pair of Lenda Curtains – $19.99    Pair of Ritva Curtains – $24.99

There’s no window behind these curtains, just some unsightly wall cut-outs.  Easily remedied for under $30 with the Lenda curtains and an $8 antique ladder.

Compare at $65 per panel at Pottery Barn

SAVINGS – $105

3.  CHALKBOARD

Luns Magnetic Chalkboard – $14.99

and by the way, this stuff is magic!

Similar find at Pottery Barn for $69

SAVINGS – $54

4.  STORAGE

Lidan Set of two Baskets – $9.99

Overstock.com's version for $29.99/each

SAVINGS – $50

5.  PLACE MATS

Soare Place Mat – $3.99 a piece and Silje Place Mat – $2.99 each

This set of 6 goes for $84 @ Pottery Barn

SAVINGS – $60

6.  THROW PILLOWS

Gosa Tulpan Pillow Insert – $16.99, Ursula Pillow Cover – $12 and Sanela Pillow Cover – $13

Pottery Barn Pillows - $24 for down insert, and 29.50 for cover

SAVINGS – $24

So there you have it!

I feel compelled to mention, I shop at all the retailers I mentioned in this post;  each having something special to offer.   Sometimes, I do splurge on the “finer” things in life.   Just remember, there are savings to be had without compromising quality and the “look” you want to achieve for your home.

And those are some of the reasons why I love Ikea.

HAPPY SHOPPING!

I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THIS POST!

Until really soon,

Renee

SWEET SALVAGE – May 17, 2012

I’D LIKE TO INVITE ALL OF YOU TO JOIN ME ON A JUNK ADVENTURE!

The third Thursday of every month is much anticipated in my neck of the woods.

Why?  SWEET SALVAGE, that’s why!

Haha, BUYERS BEWARE!

If you’re a person who loves old stuff and the kind of  interesting finds you can’t get at Target; this event is just what the doctor ordered.  Think – indoor flea market of awesomeness.  Now that triple digit weather is pretty much a guarantee from now until October, Sweet Salvage being indoors with AC, is a cherry on top of an already great time.  On Thursdays,  people are lined up outside waiting to claim his or her territory.  If you see something you like, and you don’t buy it right away, it’s likely to disappear from under your nose.  This type of environment is very conducive to impulse shopping, but there are great deals to be had.

First, I’ll show some of the highlights of the event.

Then, you’ll get to see what I got!

THESE TYPES OF EVENTS ARE NEVER SHORT OF GREAT DECORATING IDEAS

GREAT FURNITURE

ODDS AND ENDS

I always have a ton of fun and leave with an assortment of goods.  This week was no exception.  I love to come home and display my purchases on the table for a quick moment of admiration.  Come, have a look!

MY STUFF

I SAW THIS AND I RIPPED THE TAG OFF AND GOT A SOLD SIGN ON IT, REALLLL QUICK!  I SAW SOME PEOPLE EYEING HER UP AND I KNEW I NEEDED TO MAKE AN HONEST WOMAN OUT OF HER, ON THE DOUBLE!  IT’S A DRESSER, BUT I’M USING IT IN MY DINING ROOM AS A BUFFET.

FAVORITE FIND:  I CAN’T DECIDE BETWEEN THE CLOCKS AND THE DRESSER

OLD SHOE DISPLAY(PUMPS NOT INCLUDED), SIGNS, AND AN OPERA PROGRAM

I LOVE THE PATINA ON MY WOODEN TRAY, AND THE EMBELLISHED LEATHER GLOVES FEEL LIKE BUTTAH!  OLD LEATHER TENDS TO BE DRY AND FALL APART.  THESE WERE IN GREAT CONDITION.

PRETTY BLUE FLASH BULBS AND GALVANIZED TRAY

If you live in the Phoenix area, I would highly recommend stopping by Sweet Salvage.

I hope you enjoyed this post.

AMAZING PROJECT ALERT!

This week, you’re in store for a real treat.  A great functional and decorative DIY project is coming your way, so be sure to stop back in.

Until really soon,

Renee

On one of my many trips to Mesa, I stumbled upon something very interesting while shopping at the Antique Plaza. At first I wasn’t sure what it was, but then I read the tag and had an “ah-ha” moment.  Ohhhh, … Continue reading
